Overview

The University of Central Florida originally opened its doors as Florida Technological University in 1963. Located in Orlando and near many attractions such as Walt Disney World, UCF offers not only the advantages of a great location and pleasant weather year-round, but also the excitement and opportunities generated from the fast growth, technology, and diversity that only a city such as Orlando can provide. The beautiful main and regional campuses provide the perfect environment for learning, the latest technology available in education, and the UCF currently offers 92 bachelor’s degrees, 73 master’s, 25 doctoral and three specialist programs in ten colleges: arts and humanities, biomedical science, business administration, education, engineering and computer science, health and public affairs, hospitality management, optics and photonics, sciences and an honors college.

Undergraduate education at UCF is rooted in the arts and sciences, providing a broad liberal education while developing competence in fields of special interest. This solid foundation is the platform that supports the university’s concentration on graduate programs and research. With world-renowned faculty, international curricula, innovative community partnerships, and the integration of technology and learning, UCF promises students an exceptional academic experience.

Research
as well as responding to ever-changing local, national and international demands. With research funding exceeding $100 million last year, graduate students at UCF have remarkable opportunities for investigation and development of new technologies.

Currently, UCF has several nationally and internationally recognized research institutes including the UCF College of Optics and Photonics/CREOL (Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers) and FPCE (Florida Photonics Center of Excellence), the Institute for Simulation and Training, the Florida Solar Energy Center, and the National Center for Forensic Science. In addition, the technology incubator provides a means for UCF to transfer technology from the research laboratory to the marketplace. The Central Florida Research Park, located adjacent to the UCF Orlando campus, is a hotbed for sponsored research and employment opportunities for UCF students and graduates.

Student and Campus Life
Student life at UCF is more than just working on projects and attending classes. The university supports and encourages many forms of student participation, and the Office of Student Involvement provides students with the tools that foster leadership, personal development and social responsibility. Through leadership and coordination, this office provides advice to more than 350 registered clubs and organizations.

Along with activities on campus, the university strives to provide students with comfortable and modern facilities. The Department of Housing and Residence Life offers accommodations for more than 9,000 students in seven communities. There are also many affiliated housing facilities available outside the UCF campus.

Alumni
A students’ association with the university does not end when they graduate. The UCF Alumni Association enhances the lives of alumni, providing them with the opportunity to stay connected and involved with the future of the university.
