About
CSUS English Language Institute
The
English Language Institute at California State University prepares
international students from around the world to improve their English
for academic or professional purposes. Students study in an interactive
environment that gives students opportunities to use their English
in a classroom environment as well as in various campus settings.
The small class size at each level places an emphasis on student
participation.
The ELI Program
is a seven-level program that includes instruction at the beginning,
intermediate, and advanced levels. Students receive instruction
in all language skill areas (Grammar, Listening & Speaking,
Reading/Vocabulary, and Composition) as they work on gaining proficiency
to meet their educational objectives.
Advanced level
students may enroll in the CSUS ELI Bridge program. This program
enables students to continue with a partial study of English, yet
at the same time, students in the bridge program can enroll in one-two
university courses within one of the CSUS colleges.
In
the CSUS ELI Program, students have the opportunity to practice
their English and to improve their cultural knowledge through a
number of extracurricular activities. In addition to specialized
workshops, conversation partners, and various interactive learning
activities, students can enjoy much that Sacramento and the nearby
area has to offer. Sacramento is situated between San Francisco
in the west and Lake Tahoe in the east. Both San Francisco and Lake
Tahoe are easily accessible to students for day trips, shopping,
recreation, and entertainment. Each session, students in the ELI
program visit one of the main sightseeing areas in Northern California.
