Study in Canada: the Selkirk College Advantage

Selkirk College is a fully-accredited public college in British Columbia’s post-secondary education system, with over 40 years experience helping students achieve their university and career goals.  Established in 1966, Selkirk College serves over 2500 Canadian and over 100 international students every academic year.

The college is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth, British Columbia, Canada.  In addition to the breathtaking scenery and world-class recreation (hiking, skiing, snowboarding and golf), there are the further advantages of a clean, safe and friendly, English-speaking community life.  This area is also known for its arts and culture and unique history in Canada.

Selkirk College also offers competitive tuition fees, full credit transfer to universities, small classes and lab sizes, free tutorials, and quality services.   It has a firm reputation for many of its Degree, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs.

Among the programs that Selkirk College is well-known for are its Tourism and Hospitality programs, such as Resort & Hotel Management and Golf or Ski Resort Management.  These programs offer paid field placements and practicums (internships) across Canada.

The Forestry Technology, Integrated Environmental Technology, Recreation, Fish and Wildlife (including eco-tourism components), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs, as well as being among the best known programs in these fields in Canada, also offer co-operative education (co-op) placements.  Co-op education is also available in the Business Administration Diploma Program and the University Transfer Applied Science (Engineering) program.

The Engineering Bridge program allows students to study in a small class environment and fully prepare them to enter Engineering Programs in the best universities in British Columbia, such as the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU).  The Kinesiology/Physical Education program is also transferable to the third year of studies at UBC.

The Contemporary Music Technology Program has transfer credit to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The Professional Aviation Program has been training commercial pilots in Canada for over 40 years.  Graduates of the Selkirk College Aviation program are working as pilots for many airline companies around the world.  The Professional Aviation Program has transfer credit agreements with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona and Florida, USA.

One of the most recent initiatives at Selkirk College is the Mir Centre for Peace and the Peace Studies Diploma program, which is attracting attention nationally and internationally.

Advanced Post-Graduate Diplomas are available in GIS and TESOL (accredited by TESOL Canada).

There are Study Abroad opportunities and Student Exchange agreements with educational institutions in China, Japan, Chile, France, Switzerland, Mexico, Australia and the USA.
