Overview
Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin and the 19th largest city in
the United States, is the business, financial, industrial and cultural heart of
the Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee campus is located
in a safe, attractive residential neighborhood and within a short walking
distance of Lake Michigan. |
Academics and Admissions
- The 12 schools and colleges of the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offer
more than 120 undergraduate majors
and sub-majors and more than 75
master’s and doctoral degree programs
in such disciplines as architecture, the
arts, engineering, health professions,
liberal arts, business, education, health
sciences, nursing.
- The office for International Student
and Scholar Services (ISSS) strongly
recommends international applicants
apply to the university at least nine
months before the semester in which
they would like to enroll
- To be considered for admission all
international students must complete
an application, which can be submitted
online at www.apply.wisconsin.edu
- Official records from all secondary
schools, colleges, and universities
attended must be submitted before
students can be fully accepted.
- A TOEFL score of 520 (PBT), 190
(CBT), 73 (IBT) and IELTS 5.5 for
undergraduates and 550 (PBT), 213
(CBT), 79 (IBT) and IELTS 6.5 for
graduate students is the minimum for
admission into a degree program.
English as a Second Language
- UWM offers an intensive English language program, as well as
support for enrolled students whose
fi rst language is not English.
- Undergraduate students may be
admitted conditionally. Students
with a TOEFL score of 500-517
(CBT 173-187, IBT 63-72) will
be permitted to begin part-time
undergraduate studies while
pursuing part-time ESL. Students
with a TOEFL score of less than
500 (PBT), 173 (CBT) 61 (IBT), or
IELTS score of less than 5.5 will
be enrolled in ESL full time until
profi ciency meets part-time or fulltime
academic study requirements.
- Graduate applicants who score
500-550 (PBT), 173-213 (CBT) 73-
79 (IBT), and 5.5 or 6.0 IELTS may
be admitted for part-time academic
study while pursuing part-time ESL

Student and Campus Life
- UWM’s social life centres
on the Union, ranked among
the top 20 student unions in
the United States. The union
has a bookstore, craft centre,
cinema, art gallery, bowling
alleys, billiards, bank, meeting
rooms, offices of student
organizations, food court, and
frequent concerts and lectures.
- Milwaukee’s miles of
lakefront beaches and trails
create a great environment
for beach-goers, joggers,
rollerbladers and bicyclists.
