The
Engineering School at the University of Rennes associates
a higher teaching combined with research so that students
who have had 2 to 4 years experience after their A level
can benefit from a scientific and technological teaching
which is good one since it is adapted to the needs of
the industrial world.
3
different potential careers paths :such is the flexible
study given.
Over
3 years, the ENSSAT teaches engineers in 3 disciplines
of new technologies :
- The
first one is electronics and industrial informatics.
It teaches engineers specialized in electronics who
posses the methodologies and the conception techniques
of real time systems. The integrated systems and circuits
as well as the techniques of traitement and transmission
of pieces of information.
- The
second one is a software and informatique system.
It teaches engineers spealized in informatics who
posses the technology of systems and networks, the
methodologies and the tools of the software programm
genius and the system of informatics.
- The
third one is optronics. It teaches engineers with
developped scientific and technological skills in
conception and realization of optronic systems. Those
two main sectors of activity are optical telecommunications
and optical systems for the industry
Studies
organisation with a solid scientific basis, a teaching
of methodologies for developing a project, an opening
of application sectors :such as the main branches of
the ENSSAT training.
A
third of the teaching is devoted to general studies,
and the other two specialities :
Applied
sciences and technologies, and an opening onto application
sectors. The practical know-how is organized around
practical teaching, projects and training periods.
The ENSSAT divides the studies into semesters, conforming
to the schedule of European studies. The total of the
studies spread over a five semester period of 450 hours,
which gives a weekly tuition of thirty hours for students.
The teachings are grouped together in competence units.
The assessments are organized according to the principal
of continuous control of knowledge, with four sessions
per year.
The emphasis is on the language's teaching so that students
are open to an international dimension. English is given
priority in the first year and the school gives training
for the TOEIC( Test of English for International Communication).
During the second year, a second language is taught
amongst a variety of subjects.
Very
gifted sportsmen can be allowed suitable time table
arrangement to be able to conciliate their teaching
along their sport activities.
The
third year is composed of two parts :teachings and work
experience in engineering towards the end of the study
period.
The prospects
The
high technological profile of the ENSSAT engineers has
revealed a correlation requirements. A regular follow
up of the professional placement of our successful students
allows us to draw several interesting conclusions :
- Diversified
sector of study :electronics, optical telecommunications,
networks, optronics, industrial informatics and microelectronics
- A
large diversity of functions :conception and development,
research and development, expert carriage, academic
research
Different firms to take people in :large international
groups, start-ups, service companies
- Jobs
all over France but also abroad with employment found
inless than two mounths
The
technopole of telecommunications
L'ENSSAT benefits from an industrial environment which
works closely along with the biggest firm in the telecommunication
field, a group of " PME PMI ". They are specialized
in the telecommunication sector and in informatics,
electronics and optics.
At the front line of innovation, the region of Lannion
knows how to create a perfect synergy between higher
teaching, research centres and local companies .
This close partnership between the ENSSAT and the
industrial world leads to :
- training
periods with more than 800 proposals each year for
110 engineers in their last year.
- professional
placement :20% of students coming out of the ENSSAT
find a job on the technopole research projects.
International
relations
The ENSSAT is a member of several European exchange
programmes :
- At
the end of their studies 20% of engineering students
have their training period in firms overseas, among
those companies we can find Nokia in Finland, Daimler
Benz in Germany and also Dicon in the USA and some
in research laboratories such as the Stanford Research
Institute in California and ATR in Japan.
- Under
certain conditions some students spend the whole third
year abroad.
- The
school's researchers keep an alumni network throughout
the wole world. Researchers and teachers are constantly
organized and kept up-to-date of recent developments.
