What does the GEPT test?
English language proficiency in four skill areas: writing, reading, listening and speaking. The GEPT is available in five different tests corresponding to different levels of English language proficiency.
The five levels are:
- Elementary
- Intermediate
- High-Intermediate
- Advanced
- Superior
Each level is administered in a two-stage process. If you pass the first stage, you are allowed to register for the second stage.
Who administers the GEPT tests?
The GEPT was developed by the Language Training and Testing Centre (LTTC) in Taipei, Taiwan and was first administered in 2002.
When can I take the tests?
- Elementary - twice a year
- Intermediate - twice a year
- High Intermediate - twice a year
- Advanced - once a year
- Superior - upon request
Where can I take the test?
The advanced level test can only be taken in Taipei at the LTTC's headquarters. The other GEPT tests are administered at sites located around the island of Taiwan as well as off shore islands including Peng-hu and Kin-men.
Who recognises the test?
The GEPT is used by private enterprises as well as hundreds of public and private schools (e.g. Cheng Kung University, Chiao Tung University, Chung Cheng University, Chung Hsing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan University, Tsing Hua University etc.) as a means of determining the English abilities of their employees or as an admissions, placement, or graduation criterion.
