Helia

Helsinki Business Polytechnic, Helia is a private polytechnic that offers Bachelor degree programmes in Finnish, Swedish and English, and prepares students for expert roles in business and administration, information technology, tourism, administrative professions, and vocational education. The polytechnic was founded in 1992, with facilities in Helsinki and Porvoo. Helia has 400 staff members and at present over 6,000 students study at Helia. The number of students admitted annually is 1,200.

As students from the different degree programmes often work together, negotiation and group work skills are also a key priority at Helia. Teaching methods focus on project and workplace learning, up-to-date course content and workshop training. Students can also complete part of their studies online. There are both day and evening courses on offer at Helia.

Helia is also an international polytechnic, with foreign students studying in the degree programmes or taking courses as part of exchange programmes. Helia's students can study abroad in over 70 partner schools or participate in international research projects. They can also study for dual degrees. In addition, Helia provides teaching in twelve different languages and students, can complete up to 20 credit units in one of the major languages.

Helia's mission is to train its students to be sought-after experts in professional life, to build an internationally recognised high-quality learning environment and to contribute to the development of teaching, vocational pedagogy and workplace practices through its Research and Development (R&D) activities.

Altogether 12 foreign languages are taught at Helia. In our exchange programmes - ERASMUS, NORDPLUS and bilateral - we send annually about 150 students for one or two semesters to our partner universities and we host more or less the same number of foreign exchange students at Helia. About 25 visiting faculty members come to Helia every year for a short or longer visit. Helia has a double degree agreement with seven partner universities in five European countries.
