University
of Limerick is an independent university established by the
Government of Ireland in 1972. It is located in Ireland's National
Technological Park on the banks of the river Shannon near Limerick
City (population 80.000) Total student enrolment in 2000/2001,
including some 650 international students, is 9,750 undergraduate
and 1,800 graduate students. UL offers a wide selection of opportunities
at undergraduate and graduate level in the six colleges of the
University: Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities, Informatics
& Electronics, and Science.
The
pursuit of excellence in teaching and research to the highest
level has been the prime mission of the University from the
outset. In pursuing its mission, it is recognised that an
appropriate balance between the sciences and the humanities
is necessary; students avail of the modular credit system
to undertake a portion of their studies outside their major
field.
University of Limerick seeks to be relevant
to the times and to the nation's needs, and to provide its
students with education to the highest levels in the application
as well as the acquisition of knowledge. The university believes
that professional competence is best fostered by a coupling
of teaching and research with attention to real-world problems.
Today, education and related research continue to be the University's
central purpose with relevance to the practical world as a
guiding principle.
On campus Accommodation:
The
University of Limerick offers 3 student villages, accommodating
over I,400 students. Accommodation ranges from 4 to 8 bedroom
town houses and 2-6 bedroom apartments.
Each village provides a secure and pleasant
environment. The villages are among the most popular accommodation
option for UL students during their college years.
