When students come to a private university or college in the Quad Cities, they graduate with an education that will make them a success almost anywhere in the world. Physically, the diverse, multi-cultural Quad Cities region encompasses towns and counties - about two dozen communities in all - in Iowa and Illinois, which border together on the river and comprise a vibrant population of 377,000 people. The 16st cities are Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline, Illinois.
The Quad Cities is only a day's drive from major metropolitan areas such as Des Moines, Chicago, St Louis, and Minneapolis. Major airline services are available at the Quad-City Airport in Moline, Illinois. The Quad Cities is right on Interstate 80, one of the nation's major interstates that runs across the country, as well as being served by interstates 280, 88 and 74, several major state highways.
Rolling Along the River
The Mississippi River plays a huge part in the Quad Cities as a modern and historical natural resource and site for recreation. Bike paths, picnic areas, sailing and other kinds of recreational boating, water-skiing, charter boats, sculptures and community-built art pieces, parks and much more can be found all along the river.
For entertainment, students won't have to look far to find a sport or a concert they're sure to enjoy. The Quad-City Mallards hockey team bring United Hockey League excitement to The Mark of the Quad Cities, a huge civic centre in Moline, Illinois, that also features live concerts by top artists such as Elton John and Alan Jackson. The Quad City River Bandits, a single-A baseball team, play regular games at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, whilst the Quad City Steamwheelers, an arena football league, plays at the i wireless Center.
The Adler Theatre in Davenport features the finest in stage productions, from 'Cats' to 'Tap Dogs'. There are dozens of other performance venues, including Circa'21 Dinner Theatre, where you can enjoy music, comedy and drama. The Quad City Symphony performs regular concerts featuring internationally renowned performers. The Davenport Museum of Art has one of the finest collections of Haitian art anywhere in the world, and the neighbouring Putnam Museum of History and Natural Science features a history of the area and changing exhibits.
Education
The colleges and universities in the Quad Cities stress excellence in teaching, with a variety of courses to study and boundless opportunity for educational enrichment. Smaller class sizes mean that each student receives individual attention. Your education will be a personal one, designed with your career goals and interests in mind.
Augustana College in Rock Island is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is an independent liberal arts and sciences college, that grants degrees in more than 60 fields of study. It has a natural history museum, planetarium on campus, and presents dozens of cultural events.
Palmer College of Chiropractic is in Davenport, where chiropractic began. The school offers a doctor of chiropractic degree, associate, bachelor and Master of Science degrees, and also a diploma in chiropractic technology and certification by the American Chiropractic Registry of Radiology Technology.
St Ambrose University in Davenport is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport. The university offers more than 50 undergraduate programs in the liberal arts as well as pre-professional and career-oriented programs, and graduate programs at the master's and doctoral level. The Galvin Fine Arts Center is well recognized for the variety of cultural events performed for the entire community.
Even before students graduate, the Quad Cities higher education process will start them on a career with potential for international success. Internships and assistantships are available at such companies as HON Industries, Alcoa and Deere and Company, with strong international ties.
