It takes a special student to achieve a place at the prestigious London School of Economics and Meruyert Orynbassarova (known in the college as Mika) is certainly that. Mika has managed to achieve outstanding A-Level results this summer, but that comes as no surprise to us as she has been a model student throughout her six terms at college.
A-Level Programme Manager Erin Robinson describes Mika as “a wonderfully intelligent, self-driven and intellectually curious student”. She has a real thirst for knowledge and never gives up when things get intellectually demanding. “She always takes an active role in class and shares her knowledge with her peers very generously”, says Erin.
Mika’s teachers have been similarly impressed by her all-round A-Level performance. Economics teacher Jerome Lee says he will remember Mika as “an assertive and dynamic personality, who is remarkably proactive in extending her interest outside the classroom”. Mika even won the Bellerbys Inter-Collegiate Economics Essay Competition, where she really showed her depth of understanding and passion.
With excellent evaluation and critical thinking skills as well as her enthusiasm for the mathematical side of Economics, Mika managed to excel in all her various subjects.
“She consistently performed to a very high standard across all branches of mathematics”, says her Maths teacher John McDarby. “She is a very accomplished mathematician who should have no difficulty with the maths she will encounter studying Economics at degree level.”
