Italy’s undergraduate degree is the bachelor’s degree. Programmes can be found both through the bachelor of science and the bachelor of arts, giving students many options in their studies.

Most exams in Italy are oral, meaning you’ll be asked a series of one-on-one questions by your professor and be expected to answer face-to-face.

Signed up to the Bologna Process, that connects Italy’s higher education system with others in Europe, the country has brought in the nuovo ordinamento system. This means that bachelor’s degrees in Italy last three years (these are called laurea triennale).

The amount of work needed to pass each course is determined by a credit system. Roughly 25 hours of study time equals one credit. There is also the opportunity to change course or transfer to studying in another country after three years.

International students applying to study a degree in Italy will need to show they have successfully completed pre-university education in their home country. You may also be asked to prove your Italian language abilities.
