Situated in America’s Great Plains in the Midwest, Nebraska is old American farming country. A traditional crossroads of America, Nebraska first gained prominence during the Californian Gold Rush.

Nebraskan is the traditional America of old, with treeless prairies filled with grazing cattle, rural living and plenty of wide open space – the state is the 9th least densely populated state in America.

Despite this, Nebraska has two interesting and edgy cities in state capital Lincoln and largest city Omaha, where most international students will be based.

Nebraska is home to two public university state systems and several private colleges. You can study an undergraduate degree at some of the institutions below:

An undergraduate degree from Nebraska will fall into two categories. You can either study for an Associate degree which will take two years to complete or for a Bachelors degree which is usually completed in four years.

Immigration and visas

Before travelling to the USA to study, you will need to apply for a non-immigrant visa for study in Nebraska.

The most common kind of student visa is the F-1 visa, which entitles the holder to study at any US accredited college or university.

To apply for a student visa, you will need to fill out an application form (found on the US Embassy website) and send appropriate documentation, such as evidence of financial standing and proof of university acceptance and academic qualifications, as well as possibly attending a visa interview at the US Embassy in your home country. 

Accommodation and living costs

Most international students in Nebraska will choose to live in dedicated university halls of accommodation provided by the university.

Most on campus accommodation will include recreational facilities, kitchens and study areas and are a great way to meet fellow students.

You will normally be able to apply for accommodation through a dedicated university housing department, who will also be able to help you if you choose to look for private housing in Nebraska.
