SCHOOL OF FINANCE
& LAW

Situated on the beautiful South Coast of England, Bournemouth is a safe but lively seaside town with an abundance of cafes, bars, shops, clubs, cinemas, theatres and other entertainment. Travel links from Bournemouth to the rest of the UK and Europe are excellent with London only 1hour and 40 minutes away.

The School of Finance & Law at Bournemouth University is the established centre of expertise and innovation in the teaching of accounting, finance and law. The School has earned a reputation for developing innovative and dynamic vocational and professional courses. The School also has strong and effective links with the UK's law, accounting, tax and financial services professional bodies, as well as with major commercial organisations, ensuring that our courses meet both student and employer needs in today's competitive market.

The School pioneered the study of Financial Services as a degree subject in the UK which then went on to win a DTI award. Similarly the Taxation & Law course, now a qualifying law degree, was recognised by being awarded the Chartered Institute of Taxation's Gold Medal. Many of our courses allow students exemptions from related professional examinations.

The teaching staff are all experienced and professionally qualified and are committed to excellence in learning and teaching. The School has three sponsored Chairs; the Abbey National Chair in Risk Management, the ICSA Chair in Corporate Governance and the Steele Raymond Chair in Business Law. The School has also developed an enviable reputation for research in the fields of corporate governance, financial services and intellectual property management, as well as in its primary disciplines of accounting and law.

We particularly welcome applications from overseas students, many of our programmes incorporate certain aspects of international and European finance & law. The School also has collaborative links with institutions in the Channel Islands, Poland and the USA. It is the only UK member of AFECA, a European accounting association which encourages collaboration between accounting students in Europe.

Placement Experience
As a vocational school, we aim to help students develop the practical skills they will need to be successful in their chosen fields, Many of our courses offer a placement with an appropriate business or practice. After 40 weeks in a 'real' job, students return to Bournemouth for their final year. Upon graduation, many of our graduates return to work for their placement companies and practices.

Student Support
The School is strongly committed to the provision of extra-curricular support. Staff-student relations are excellent and there are active student Accounting and Law societies. Academic support is provided through our network of course leaders, year tutors and course administrators. Students also enjoy access to all of Bournemouth University's support services.
