Department of Materials

Applications are invited for postgraduate studies leading to a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering.

A number of bursaries and studentships are available for PhD research programmes.

We welcome PhD applicants from a wide variety of science and engineering
disciplines.

PhD students may carry out a broad range of research projects involving experimental work and modelling of the processing, properties and application of functional and structural materials. In terms of applications there is an emphasis on advanced materials for transport, clean power generation, novel electronic devices, health and environmental impact.

Research within the Department of Materials may also be associated with one of four
intedisciplinary research centres: Centre for High Temperature Superconductivity, Centre for Composite Materials, Centre for Tissue Generation and Repair or Centre for Ionic Conducting Membranes.
