The London School of Journalism has been at the forefront of teaching journalism and creative writing skills for three generations, and still leads the way in developing new and effective teaching methods.

Although the LSJ is best known for journalism courses, many of its students are involved in other areas - short story writing, novels, children's fiction, poetry, cartooning and various English courses form an equally important part of their activity.

The School offers both distance learning and postgraduate journalism courses. The distance learning courses are not term based, and may be started at any time. The postgraduate courses, which are held in London every September, January and April include a nine-month evening course as well as three and six month daytime courses - all of which cover newspaper, broadcast and internet journalism, feature writing, media law, subediting and desktop publishing. These courses are NUJ approved, entitling you to student NUJ membership for the duration of your course.

Distance learning students have the benefit of regular online lectures and a bulletin board for student contact. Students come from all over the world, and many use email so that all their work and assignments are delivered with the minimum of delay. Distance learning, together with modern communications, now allows student and teacher to work closely together, regardless of physical location.

The LSJ also holds a four-week summer school every August and short evening class workshops for freelance writers three times a year.

If you are interested in joining an LSJ attendance course, book early! Postgraduate courses are usually fully booked well before their start date.
