Where are you going to study today?

Franklin University Switzerland is education that explores and goes beyond boundaries. It is a school where nationalities and cultural perspectives meet and create unique experiences. It is a learning method that incorporates travel and interdisciplinary study into the core of the curriculum. We refer to our methodology and mission as the international imperative in education.

Franklin University Switzerland is a private, non-profit university located in Switzerland. It was founded as Franklin College in 1969. It offers a unique and innovative approach to liberal arts education, characterized by an emphasis on international exposure and experiential learning in a culturally diverse environment. Franklin University Switzerland is in the unique position of being accredited in both the United States and within the Swiss university system.

At Franklin, curiosity is required. You will take an Academic Travel course every semester, seeing places you have studied with your own eyes. You will attend class with international faculty and students from over 50 countries. You will have the opportunity to travel independently and to do internships internationally. You will do research and will develop a critical perspective. You will graduate with a degree that is accredited in both the United States and Switzerland. You will have learned the art of adapting to any situation on the fly. You will be a world traveler. You will have everything you need to be successful.

Come with us to Greece, Malawi, France, Japan, Scotland, Iceland, Korea, Botswana, Italy, or India; and above all come to study in Switzerland, a true crossroads of languages and cultures in the heart of Europe. Take advantage of the opportunity to get an education like no other.

The perfect location

Swiss Alps. Glacial lakes. Mediterranean climate. An Italian flavor. An international population. This is the city we call home: Lugano, Switzerland. Franklin’s founders chose Lugano as the perfect location for the kind of school they had envisioned for all of these reasons and more. Lugano’s cosmopolitan character is central to the experience of life at Franklin, and the campuses are only a twenty-minute walk from the center of Lugano, where rail and airlines connect students with all of Europe.

Visit Franklin and see why so many students feel at home on our campus and in the Lugano community. We welcome you, your friends and family to experience what it means to live and learn in our international environment.

Boundless: not limited in any way; having no boundaries

We know that there are always limits to where you can go and what you can do while getting your degree, but we try to challenge those boundaries as far as they will go. At other universities, boundaries can include inflexible curricula, rigid social traditions, academic calendars that discourage travel and a college microculture that interacts little with the surrounding community. Franklin takes a different approach. With degree programmes that offer many opportunities for interdisciplinary experiences, Academic Travel and direct interaction with a multilingual Swiss community, crossing physical and social borders will become second-nature to you.

The Franklin curriculum is as focused or as interdisciplinary as you want it to be. We offer quality academic programmes taught by capable scholars – if we didn't, we wouldn't be accredited in two countries – but we go beyond the more direct path to offer many majors with multiple emphases, such as International Management with an emphasis in Marketing, or Visual Communication Arts with an emphasis in Fashion Studies. We offer the opportunity to combine majors, such as Economics with Italian Studies or Psychology with Communication and Media Studies, and many of our students double-major or take multiple minors.

Additionally, Franklin is small. Many of the opportunities to experience leadership roles, such as student government, academic mentorship, student clubs or resident assistance, are very attainable goals for students that want to pursue them. As anyone at Franklin will tell you, Franklin is what you make of it.

Exploratory: done or created to find something or to learn more about something

Franklin was founded by people who believed that interacting with other cultures directly through travel was an essential learning experience, and that it was the only way to create understanding between people of different nations. Academic Travel has always been a fundamental part of the Franklin curriculum.

The value of a Franklin education is more than just accumulating information to be applied in your career field. The Franklin experience will open your mind to the world, and you will gain a real human understanding that will give you the tools you need to become a leader. Leadership is about understanding people, their desires and differences, and Franklin's interdisciplinary, cross-cultural curriculum, location and international student/faculty population create the perfect environment for developing that understanding.

Our alumni are team leaders and entrepreneurs who add value to multinational companies, new ventures, government and non-profit organizations in multiple countries around the world. They do not stop at boundaries and they innovate to forge new paths. It is the Franklin Experience that gives them the tools to succeed.

Accreditations

Franklin University Switzerland is accredited in both the United States and Switzerland.

That means that your degree is truly international and that you have an advantage to pursuing an international career or furthering your study in the US or Europe. The doors opened by a Franklin education go far beyond though, and most countries in the world will grant equivalence to a Franklin degree if you have your sights set elsewhere.
