My name is Nathaly Gracia Rodriguez. I am an international student from Ecuador. When I came to Connecticut to learn English at UConn- UCAELI I was so nervous and I did not what to expect. However, as soon as classes began not just the teachers but also the staff from this great program made me feel like home.
I shared classrooms with people from all around the world, and that is the main reason why I loved this program. UCAELI was not just an academic program but also an opportunity to get to know the world without even travel. This program presents very interactive activities that give students the chance to get to know their classmates not just in the educational ambit but also it allows you to exchange cultures. UCAELI is composed of intelligent and well prepared teachers that create an excellent connection with their students. This connection between teachers – students and students – students were not just performed during normal classes schedule but also through events such as trips, in class and out class activities. This program also offers students the preparation they need to be ready to have a college life if they would like to stay in the US.
Teachers are very committed to their job and it can be clearly denoted how passionate they are about what they do. They personally take care of students and are willing to help them as much as they can in order for them to be successful. Without UCAELI I would have not been admitted into the University of Connecticut. Professors were more than happy to help me with my preparation for exams such as TOEFL, SAT and to write essays for college applications. They properly guide you through the process making sure that your education is priority. UCAELI impart on their students the motivation and inspiration to follow their dreams. Coming to UCAELI was one of the best decisions and gave me one of the best experiences of my life.
Two months ago, while I was reading a book, I stopped at a question:
“What is the most exciting place you have ever been during your professional life?”
I was deeply thinking to address what is most exciting period in my life. In that moment, UCAELI popped up in my mind. In September 2013, I left my home and my family to start a new life that had a lot of dreams. I joined UCELAI in the 2nd day for me at the US with many concerns about it. I started the 1st program in my academic journey at UCEALI, but what I have learned is more than a language; I found a professional environment, and one-family atmosphere that has a clear objective; all the staff are looking forward enhancing the student’s outcomes in many directions: improving their English proficiency, achieving time management skills, preparing them to an academic life, and working-well to interact with classmates from all over the world. After three semesters full of knowledge, I got the Proficiency Certificate, and then started pursing my Masters of Science at UConn. In point of fact, all the days I spent at UCEALI makes my academic journey much easier by strengthen the skills that needed to be mastered, such as communication skills, public speaking, and academic writing.
Thus, there is no doubt that UCAELI is the most exciting place in my academic journey and professional life.
