The International Academy is based at the historic Priorslee Hall at our Telford Innovation Campus at the University of Wolverhampton and offers a real 'home from home' for our International Students in the greenest of counties in Shropshire. Telford town centre is nearby which has many shops, restaurants and entertainment venues and is close to the motorway network and the local train station with links to Birmingham, which is just 30 minutes away and London which is 2 hours 30 minutes journey time.
The International Academy provides a friendly, safe, relaxed environment in the historic Priorslee Hall which has bright well equipped teaching rooms with free social facilities that include a games room, piano, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and comfy sofas to relax in. The campus also has an outdoor sports field and floodlit hard court for football, basketball and tennis as well as a modern learning centre and award winning restaurant.
The University of Wolverhampton
The University of Wolverhampton is a large modern university with over 23,000 students across three campuses in Wolverhampton, Telford and Walsall. It has world-class facilities with a reputation for world-leading research and excellent teaching. A free shuttle bus is available to students which links all campuses.
The International Academy
The International Academy delivers Pre-sessional courses all year round, at 5 entry levels (Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and University Preparation) with start dates in January, February, May, June, July, September, October and December. Students will acquire the language and study skills required for study at a UK University. The Academy also offers a Graduate and Professional English Language Skills course to enable students to meet the entry requirements for a research or professional career ( IELTS 7.0).
We run a diagnostic / entrance exam (Wolverhampton English Proficiency Exam) both in the UK and overseas which assesses language levels and gives advice and recommendations on language course requirements at the University of Wolverhampton.
We run a *International Foundation Year which is designed for international students who wish to study for a degree but do not have the right qualifications to move straight on to a degree course. It develops the skills you need for studying at degree level and the opportunity to experience University life. We have four International Foundation Years:
- International Foundation Year in Education, Health & Wellbeing
- International Foundation Year in Arts
- *International Foundation Year in Science and Engineering
- International Foundation Year in Social Sciences
The International Academy offers Teacher Development courses for EFL teachers; we deliver initial teacher training (1 week) introductory courses, and a University of Wolverhampton Certificate in TEFL (bespoke) including teaching and assessments for which participants receive a University Certificate.

We have also specifically designed a Pre-Masters Course for students who need to bridge the gap between their previous qualifications and experience and postgraduate level. The Pre-Masters course forms the foundation for Masters-level study at the University of Wolverhampton.
The Academy also offers short Continual Professional Development courses to international teachers of English, usually in closed groups.
A full residential Summer School EFL programme is available with option classes , as well as bespoke language courses throughout the year on demand.
In addition to our UK courses, Pre-sessional courses are offered from Beginner (CEFR A1, approx. IELTS 3.5) to Advanced (CEFR B2, Approx IELTS 6) , in China and Sri Lanka .
For our UK based undergraduate students, there is a full range of EFL University credit-based modules available for study.
