Study In Barcelona - Explore Universities in Barcelona

Study in Barcelona, and find the best universities in Barcelona.

Barcelona has a glamorous, stylish profile. It has great nightlife, culture, excellent food and beaches, making it a dream international student destination.

However, that’s not all it has. Barcelona is home to several established and respected public universities, as well as some innovative private universities offering international students the chance to study a degree in Barcelona.

Choose the capital of Catalonia and you won’t be disappointed. While Madrid might have tradition, Bilbao toughness and Granada a Moorish influence, Barcelona is still the premier tourist – and study – destination in Spain.

It’s important to be aware that many courses in Barcelona will be taught in Catalan, with Spanish the preferred second language. English is used as a language of instruction as some universities, but it’s important to have a good level of Catalan before studying a degree in Barcelona.

Immigration and visas

EU students are able to come and study a degree in Barcelona providing you are studying at an approved institution for more than three months and have sufficient income to support yourself.

Non-EU students will need to apply for a visa dependent on their nationality. You will generally need to show the following, regardless of your nationality:

  • You are not already in the country on a tourist or business visa
  • You have paid all relevant visa fees
  • You have sufficient funds to support yourself

Accommodation and living costs

Most students coming to study a degree in Barcelona will choose to live halls of accommodation provided by the institution they are studying at. This will allow them to settle into university life more easily, get to know fellow students and not have to worry about finding somewhere to live.

However, at some point most students will want to live independently, particularly with the number of flats available to rent in Barcelona. Some of the more popular destinations for students to live in Barcelona include:

  • Gracia (popular student district)
  • Ciutat Vella (the Old Town, close to nightlife and bars)
  • Raval (home to many tourists)
  • Barri Gotic (right in the middle of the action, but prone to late night noise)
