Bath is an extremely popular tourist destination in the UK, known for its history and leisure industry. However, it’s also an excellent place to study an undergraduate degree as an international student.

The city of Bath is famous for its spas, baths and hot springs which were first established by the Romans and now bring in tourist by the thousands each year. The city was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1987 and you can see all the significant stages of English history in the city, from the Roman Baths to Bath Abbey and Royal Crescent.

Despite all these distractions, Bath is still a great place to study. It’s universities are highly commended, have excellent research links and have a strong international focus.

Bath is home to two universities offering undergraduate courses:

The University of Bath was named university of the year by the Sunday Times in 2011 and is famous for its studies in physical sciences, mathematics, architecture and technology.

Bath Spa University is a new university which was first given degree awarding status in 1992 before becoming a full blown university in 2005.
Studying an undergraduate degree in Bath will normally mean studying for between 3-4 years, depending on the course and mode of study.

Immigration and visas

EU citizens are allowed to come and study an undergraduate degree in Aberdeen providing they fulfil the following criteria:

  • Are studying in the UK for more than three months
  • Are enrolled at an accredited university or institution
  • Have proof of sufficient funds to cover your undergraduate degree in the UK for its duration
If you are a non-EU student coming to Aberdeen to study, you’ll need to apply for a student visa under the tier 4 visa category. In order to qualify, you’ll need to demonstrate the following:

Accommodation and living costs

It is recommended that undergraduate students choose to live in university of halls of accommodation for the start of their degree. This removes the hassle of finding somewhere to live, while also allowing you to settle into university life and meet other students.

However, if you do decide to go private, you should consider popular areas for students such as Oldfield Park, Newbridge and Weston. However, most students opt to live in the centre of Bath.

Private housing in Bath usually means signing up to a contract on a property for a minimum of six months. You should expect to pay an average monthly rent of around £300.
