Lincoln is a city in the East Midlands of England, and is one of the country’s oldest with a rich history. Famed for its cathedral and castle Lincoln is the perfect place for students from overseas to study in historic England.

Despite Lincoln being a smaller place then other university cities, as the University of Lincoln has grown since 2001 it has become a busy and exciting place to be a student. It offers the benefits of larger towns but with the sense of community that comes with smaller places. With two higher education institutions and a student population of almost 15,000 it is an increasingly popular destination for those choosing to study graduate degrees in the UK.

Study in Lincoln?

You can study an undergraduate degree in Lincoln at two institutions – Bishop Grosseteste and the University of Lincoln.
The older institution is Bishop Grosseteste which was founded in 1862 and focuses on teaching and education related studies. The University of Lincoln is one of the UK’s newest universities which has been climbing steadily up the global education league tables and has a growing reputation in many fields especially in journalism studies.

Bishop Grosseteste is a well established teaching school with an excellent reputation for those students who wish to move into a career in teaching.

Immigration and visas

EU citizens are allowed to come and study an undergraduate degree in Cambridge providing they fulfil the following criteria:

  • Are studying in the UK for more than three months
  • Are enrolled at an accredited university or institution
  • Have proof of sufficient funds to cover your undergraduate degree in the UK for its duration
If you are a non-EU student coming to Cambridge to study, you’ll need to apply for a student visa under the tier 4 visa category. In order to qualify, you’ll need to demonstrate the following:

  • Proof of funding to cover an undergraduate course and living costs
  • A confirmation of acceptance to study (CAS) reference from a university with sponsor status
  • Adequate English language skills

Accommodation and living costs

The University of Lincoln offers on-campus accommodation to overseas students but this is not guaranteed and is offered on a first come first served basis. Fees range from £4062.80 to £4603.20 per year for on-campus halls. Accredited private halls are available off campus often with more availability and at a lower cost, although these are often further from campus.

Bishops Grosseteste offer a small number of rooms in their catered on-campus halls of residence.

Students often choose to live off campus in privately rented accommodation, either with friends or independently. You might choose to live in a house or a flat, where you will be responsible for paying things such as the electricity and other bills.
