North Island College - NIC
NIC is committed to high quality and excellence in our programs supported by a dedicated faculty, staff and administration – all working together to help you achieve your goals.

Our students value the ability to gain paid work experience through our co-op and internship opportunities choosing from certificate, diploma, degree and post graduate programs in business, humanities, sciences, tourism, trades, fine arts and design, university studies and academic English preparation. With university studies and transfer options, students can start their university degree at NIC with affordable tuition fees and smaller class sizes for a more supportive learning environment, before transferring seamlessly on to university.

From vibrant music festivals, surfing on Vancouver Island's West Coast to skiing at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, NIC offers an outstanding education in one of Canada's most spectacular tourist destinations. Our safe and welcoming community offers beaches, mountains, wilderness areas and lively, friendly communities, for students to connect with their communities whether through social clubs, events and/or volunteering opportunities.
Student life at North Island College - NIC
Students study at three campuses on central Vancouver Island, a popular tourist destination with access to beaches, mountains, wilderness areas and lively, friendly communities. Whether you study in the Comox Valley, Port Alberni, or Campbell River, each community offers one-of-a-kind restaurants, social activities, and opportunities for adventure you can't get anywhere else. Located in the Comox Valley with a moderate climate year round students enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding, golfing, sailing, walking along the beaches, hiking in the forest, playing sports, swimming in the rivers, ocean or lakes, visiting local farms and wineries, attending music and art festivals, cruising through the Sunday farmer's market for fresh produce, meats, baking, beverages, flowers, and more, or browsing the artisan studios and galleries, discovering local and international cuisine or the dinner theatre.
Island life at NIC
With an overall population of 4,500 students across 4 campuses, the Comox Valley campus has an estimated population of 2,500 with a diverse international student population of 350 international students from 36 different countries who have made Vancouver Island their home away from home.

Although NIC is a smaller institution it provides the same support services as a larger one but with all the added benefits. Smaller class sizes (10-30 students) for a more supportive learning environment such as stronger peer relationships and one-on-one instructor support. Students can get help with academic advising, study permit renewals, finding housing, scholarships, as well as counselling and student employment services. We also provide peer tutoring, student mentorships, paid internship/coop, study abroad, and student leadership opportunities.

Additionally, The Office of Global Engagement supports international students through providing a range of services targeting your unique needs. We support students, faculty and staff to engage in learning outside of their current cultural context, and in developing skills for success in an interconnected world.
